I am a visual artist and songwriter from West Yorkshire (UK).

The human relationship to landscape, dwelling and world-making is central to my practice, and since becoming a mother seven years ago, my focus has shifted towards exploring landscapes of the Anthropocene from the position of motherhood. How this epoch of time - defined by the human becoming a geological force throughout the world - has shaped the environment of motherhood, and how the practice of mothering expresses and embeds itself within the landscape, are some of the questions that emerge when I respond to materials and processes. By illuminating the sense of loss and anxiety that I experience as a mother in an age of global environmental crisis, my work hopes to open up a dialogue about, what the Nigerian poet and writer Bayo Akomolafe describes as, becoming a 'citizen of grief’ in the world. Furthermore, through creative practice and its engagement with people and places, I am interested in the possibility of establishing an understanding of how to care for the troubled landscapes of the Anthropocene.

I am currently undertaking a practice-based PhD at the University of Leeds, where I have been awarded the WRoCAH scholarship for this research period. My working title is: Mothering Beyond The Flesh: ecology, creative practice and maternal agency in landscapes of the Anthropocene.
